Other Info = Being always interested in Bikes then Motorcycles, I went back living in Rochdale into business at Unity Spares in Castleton. I've always had the "bug" for music, and play Steel Guitar and 5 string Banjo in a local Country band mainly working the Legion, Elk, and Moose clubs up and down the Island. Old memories still keep flooding back to happy days with the "Skiffle Music" of the 50s and going to the Carlton Mondays and Thursdays (Ernie Mills` domain)  while the "Pivvy" (Pavilion) was for taking your girlfriend on Saturdays. Drugs were only done in places like New York or Chicago.

Other Info = I am submitting this for my husband Roy, he was born in a house on Mizzy Road in Rochdale, not there anymore. He remembers living on Back Chapel Street and Alderbank Cr in Wardle. My friend was Edward Rigg and he still lives on the same street in the same house on Henry St. When he was a lad he nearly drowned in Watergrove Reservoir as he climbed over the wall and fell in. His parents lived up Syke for awhile I think before he was born. He had a sister named June who was about 4 when they came to Canada. His dad Roy Haigh Sr. is still alive and his mother Margaret Daisy Haigh died last year. His aunt Ruth Haigh, now Tyson but widowed still lives in Smallbridge. George Haigh and Nora Haigh also live in Smallbridge but George is now in a nursing home. The first time he visited England after leaving in 1954 was in 1978 when Roy and I travelled over there. We stayed with relatives and he found his way around with no problem at all and remembered exactly where to go when we got off the bus at Wardle. He had never forgotten. We visited Wardle Primary School and they let us go in and have a look around. It has since been torn down in last couple years. We lived there in 1994 for a year and we both love everything about England and if it wasn't for our kids now 33 and 28 and our grandsons, 4, 14 months and 12  months we would stay over there. Would love to hear from anyone about themselves and what they love about England. We  love the pub food the people, the markets and small village shops, small villages and all the history. I was born in Cambridge, Ontario myself and feel like I belong in England myself. We hope England never changes.

Other Info = I was born at Birchill Hospital in 1953 along with my twin sister Alison who is now living in South Africa. I have another sister presently living in Cleveleys, Blackpool. My father worked for the Air Ministry in Heywood and is now reaching the age of 81. My mother will be 70 this year and is living in Salford, Preston. I belonged to the Youth Choir, whilst at Redbrook and I took part in an opera called the Marriage of Figaro and another called Papageno in which I was a lead part along with my partner Stefan Koval. Our music teacher who co-ordinated this was called Mr Innes. We received an invitation from Cyril Smith to attend a morning tea at the Rochdale Town Hall and I have my name in the Visitor's Book. I am proud to be a Rochdalian.

Other Info = Recently started to study Rochdale's history and have returned to look around the old town and visit the Heritage Centre. Couldn't believe my eyes really, the hearts been ripped out of the old place. The town centre is a mess, fast food joints, bars, litter, tattoo parlours and night clubs seem to be the order of the day. OK I know Rochdale was never what could be described as a tourist attraction, but at least it had character, the planners seem to have succeeded in wiping Rochdale's roots in the Industrial Revolution off the map. Sorry to be negative folks but my recent visit didn't arouse nostalgia, but sadly nausea.

Other Info = Married to Roger for 40 years, 2 children. A son who lives in Perth,W.A. and a daughter who lives in Rochdale. 
I grew up in Newbold which was nicknamed "Nigger Hill" because the miners who worked at Butterworth Hall Colliery all lived there. I lived on St. Peters Street, opposite the church. We were woken every Sunday morning by the church bell. I was born 1936 and have 2 sisters. You could go up to the top of Laurel Street and right into the fields. There was no Tin Town and you could walk clear across to Kingsway. At the top of the field , near the Milnrow Rd end there was a farm and I remember going there with my grandmother for milk. When they started building "Tin Town" just after the end of the war, it became a great playground for us kids, we used to balance our way around the footings. I attended Newbold Infants School and then St. Peters School and then Fleece St. Girls Central. At the end of Windmill St there was a chip shop owned by the Littlehales family where you could get 2 penny worth of chips. Vavasour Street was a great shopping centre and also Milnrow Road shops. In fact there was a "corner shop" practically on every street corner. The Doctor was Doctor Glen who lived on Church Road and would come out at all hours if you needed him.
